What’s a fun fact about you?

I spent two weeks in Czechia and Poland when I was 16 doing my Explorer Belt (a Scouting award). I walked over 100 miles using foreign maps and was completely self-sufficient throughout.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

Ring-tailed lemur.

Why do you like being outdoors?

I love exploring places.

What are your career ambitions?

To be able to teach future instructors how to deliver sessions and gain qualifications.

Friendly, enthusiastic and adaptable to the students.

What are your top tips for students coming to Runway’s End on a residential?

Give each activity your 100%. Teamwork is a massive part of the activities we offer, so always think about how you can help your team to get the best out of the activity. If you’re unsure, ask the instructors all of your questions – they’re friendly and will reassure you!

What’s a fun fact about you?

Catch me on TV! I used to work at Heathrow Airport Animal Quarantine and featured in a few episodes of ‘Animal Airport’ feeding the snakes and cleaning out the tarantula.

Why do you like being outdoors?

Humans were made to be outside! I’m just getting back to my natural habitat.

What are your career ambitions?

To find as many ways as I can to promote nature connection in education. I hope to help foster understanding that humans are part of nature and vice versa.

What’s your instructor style?

Very easy-going and led by the students. As long as we’re all safe then I’m happy to go off book and try something new!

What are your top tips for students coming to Runway’s End on a residential?

Even if you think something isn’t for you, give it a go, you never know what you might get out of it. Enthusiastic participants always have a good time!

What’s a fun fact about you?

I have two pet cockatiels: Reggie and Milo.

If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

A monkey because they climb, are loud, and are funny.

What are your top tips for students coming to Runway’s End on a residential?

Try everything! It’s often the activities that you’re unsure about that end up being the most memorable.

What’s your favourite joke?

I bought 14 bees from the beekeeper, but she gave me 15. I asked why and she said it was a freebie.

I love the idea that what we do can really make a change in the lives of the participants coming through our door, even in small ways. Whether they’ve gained confidence climbing to the top of the tower, worked on their team working skills paddling in a straight line, or showed resilience in lighting their own fire for the first time, it’s super rewarding being a part of.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I have a degree in Interior Architecture and Design and regularly spend my free time in my workshop designing and building furniture.

Why do you like being outdoors?

I love getting outdoors to explore and keep active as well as trying new activities, especially anything competitive.

What is your instructor style?

Chilled out instructing with a balance between being empathetic and bantering with the groups.

What are your top tips for students coming to Runway’s End on a residential?

Pack more clothes than you’d think, including extra shoes (but leave the white shoes at home).
